How Do We Do It?

Our film transfer begins with a two-part cleaning process. The first art consists of a physical cleaning, where we remove dust and debris from the film. Secondly, a cleaning and lubricating agent is applied. This cleaner helps keep the film hydrated and pliable, as well as filling in small scratches and giving the film a light protective coating, which gives the capture a "wet gate" like appearance. During this process, we inspect the film, add leader if necessary, and repair torn sprocket holes, tears, or bad splices. Also, at this point we will combine small reels together onto one large archival reel(s) for more compact and safe storage.

In the second part, we transfer your movies to a digital tape, utilizing a CCD (charged coupled device) or Digital Chip. This proven process delivers far superior quality than traditional transfer methods. Each reel is monitored by hand, from start to finish. This takes longer to do, but we believe the results are worth the effort. It provides much higher quality than a normal projector, and our customers comment that the results look much better than it ever did through a projector.

What about Video Tape Conversions? We can convert 8mm, VHS, VHS-C and Digital Video Tape to DVD. The charge is 19.95 per 2 hours of video.
What is included? - One (1) DVD Copy of Transfer
- Opening and Closing Titles
- Blank Spots Removed
- Damages or Breaks Spliced and Repaired
- All Original Film Returned To Client
Can I order extra copies?

Yes! Each extra copy is $12 per DVD. There are no copy restrictions so you can also make as many copies on your own as you like. We do have volume discounts.

Can I get my 8mm film back in an editable form? Yes! We will transfer full quality "uncompressed" AVI files from your 8mm and Super8 reels to a 2.0GB USB External Hard Drive. This hard drive does not require a "wall plug" to power it up. You only need your computer and the USB cable that comes with it.
I know how many reels I have, but how does that translate into feet? Use this chart to help you calculate the number of feet of film you have.
Reel Diameter Feet of Film
3" 50 feet
4" 100 feet
5" 200 feet
6" 300 feet
7" 400 feet
8" 600 feet
10" 800 feet
12" 1200 feet
14" 1400 feet
How much film fits on one DVD? Approximately 700-800 feet of film will fit on 1 DVD.
How should I label and package my film for shipment? To prepare your reels for transfer, group and organize them by film type. 8mm and Super8 film reels can be on the same order as long as they are grouped together by type of film. Number each reel in the order they should appear on the DVD. Provide a Title for the DVD and a name/chapter point for each reel (be sure to note the reel# and name/chapter point up to 25 characters per reel).
How long does it take? Most jobs are completed within 2 weeks. For large jobs, please call to get an estimate .
Sounds great! How do I proceed? Please fill out our order form. That gets you into our database and gives you a barcoded shipping label you can use to ship us your box of film. That barcode identifies your order so we can track it when it arrives. Here is the order page .
